Michael Vires

Michael Vires is a self taught artist who's practice and experience spans over 30 years. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Michael has been painting and drawing since his childhood.

"My drawings as a 6 year old looked like any other child's drawings. "But by the time he was in high school he was painting murals and portraits for the Fayette Co. School system and showing up in the Lexington and the Louisville newspapers for winning first place in state competitions.

"Being self taught doesn't mean you save money by not attending an art academy. Whether you receive your training formally or not, there is no way around the many hours of practice. Sometimes it takes years for an artist to become good at their craft and for a style to develop. "

In 1970, Michael relocated to Austin, Texas where for many years he painted the Texas hill country landscape and many portraits. Then in 1996 he moved to Cape Coral, Florida. He now  resides in Charlotte Co.

"What inspires me? .!t 's not the subject matter so much as it is striving for a life-like quality to my work. I want the viewer to be able to forget they are looking at paint and a flat surface."

LK Gallery says about Michael Vires....
"Our excitement level about Michael Vires' joining our Gallery is very high indeed: We consider him to be one of South Florida’s greatest natural painters.” His exhibit is an absolute must see for collectors and artists alike. Michael’s life story is as deep and rich as the color he brings to the canvas. He possesses that certain unmistakable love and need to paint, create, and express beautiful places and things he has seen and dreamed of. "

An award-winning artist and sought-after judge of art shows, he just completed a historic mural in downtown Punta Gorda.

Said Gallery owner and fellow artist Linda Kegley, “Our favorite painting hanging at home is a Michael Vires original.”
